4th July 2011 - Camp 505 Monalena Lagoon Rest Area - Coober Pedy

Magnificent morning, not a cloud in the sky, no wind and we are in the outback…doesn’t get too much better than that.  Heading up to Woomera to have a look around and then onto a free camp 45kms south of Coober Pedy.  Interesting town at Woomera, very neat and lots of memorabilia around the place, very much the Army Town by the look of the accommodation.  On the drive up towards Glendambo there is lots of water in the salt lakes along the side of the road.  Not much bird life or roadkill so I am guessing that is because there is plenty of water around.  Stopped for MT at a photo opportunity 20kms north of Pimba and lunch will be at Rest Area 507.  Lots of flocks of birds now.  They are bright green and I have just realised that they are Budgerigars.  Seem out of place up here.  After lunch we are going to find a spot and cut up some wood for our fire tonight.  Wood is very scarce at the Rest Areas.  Have decided to head into Coober Pedy for 2 nights.  We will have a look around tomorrow and head out of here on Wednesday morning. Looking forward to doing some "NOODLING" and having a look at the underground Church and houses.  Coober Pedy Caravan Park is very squashy.
